Gothic rock outfit Sometime The Wolf have emerged from Preston, Lancashire, delivering a heavy infusion of dark and atmospheric metal that seeps with power, presence and mystery.
The five-piece start the new year with the release of their transfixing debut album From Here and Earth, which is available now on all streaming services via Transcend Music and have announced their first wave of UK and European dates for 2020.
Ahead of the album, they released the first single ‘Ashes’ and have now shared the ethereal lyric video for the track ‘Deeper Than Below’, watch it here.
“’Deeper Than Below’ is a song about a deep longing. Yearning for someone no longer there, contemplating a world in which they were still in your life”, explains vocalist Drew Freeman. “It’s about feeling anguished, forlorn, deeper than below.
“The background footage for the lyric video features vast forest environments, and follows a man’s search for something lost. The pine forest imagery is relevant not only to our name and influence, but also adds to the sensation of disorientation, loss and loneliness.”
Since their incarnation the band – consisting of Drew Freeman (vocals), Lee Fury (Guitar/Vocals), Joe Walsh (Guitar), Korv Sutch (Bass) and Lewis Peacock (Drums) – have been honing their craft, playing shows across the north of England while constructing a debut full of immense scope and drama.
While drawing inspiration from artists such as Fields of The Nephilim, Tiamat, Behemoth and Karnivool, Sometime The Wolf bring their own modern edge to the genre making this a compelling release for the new decade.
“We’re very excited to finally get our album out to the world. It’s been a long process, but that was essential in making the album look and sound the way it does. We think it brilliantly reflects our influences, as well as our frame of mind during the writing and production process.”
The nine tracks offer brooding melodies and effects, intricate guitar work and distinct vocals which create a swirl of deep layered textures and soundscapes. Expansive opener ‘Earth Wane’ introduces the album and leads into the cinematic dramas of ‘Anna’ and the chiming guitar figures of potential dancefloor hit ‘Samaria (Breaking Of The Cloud)’.
Elsewhere tracks such as ‘Dancing With Her Shadows’, ‘Higher Heaven’ and ‘Wish’ highlight the band’s dynamic balance of melody and explosive riff power, while concluding with the dramatic closer and title-track ‘From Here and Earth’.

The band will be supporting the release with shows throughout the year and have already announced dates in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and UK including the Hard Rock Hell Goth Festival in London and Sheffield in September.
