Fudge, a four-piece alternative rock band from Leeds, are set to release their debut EP: ‘Panic On’ on 31st January 2020. The EP will be released alongside 50 exclusive limited edition CDs, so keep your eyes peeled for those! ‘Panic On’ brings together Fudge’s first three singles in reverse chronological order and offers listeners an extended, previously unreleased version of ‘Hugger-Mugger’!
What better way to start the EP than with a much loved single, but with a new twist? ‘Hugger-Mugger’ was the band’s third single and gets the EP off to an insane start, going above and beyond the single’s initial release. With the intro gradually getting louder and more intense, the isolated riff sets the song off in to a rock explosion!
The slightly distorted rhythms are bordering on punk rock with the energising power chords and prominent basslines. Cam’s thick Yorkshire accent is particularly noticeable in this track, which as a fellow Yorkshireman is actually quite empowering! It isn’t unusual for artists to adopt a different accent or lose their accent completely while singing so this is a welcomed change!
‘Not A Threat, Just A Warning’ comes racing in with its fast paced intro and addictive beat. The punchy vocals fit seamlessly alongside the thumping of the drums and make for a powerful song. As with the previous tracks, ‘Walrus’ begins with the same infections energy and attack. However, it then progresses in to a slightly more mellow, stripped back song which really draws the focus to Cam’s raw vocals.
Having the ‘Panic On’ EP consisting of prior releases (with the exception of an extended version of ‘Hugger-Mugger) was a lovely way to wrap up Fudge’s journey so far, and it leaves the listener eagerly anticipating their new material. What a way to kick off 2020!
