On the back of a summer of sold out shows, including opening for Brix & The Extricated, Piroshka (ex-Lush and Elastica), and their first appearance at the acclaimed Dot to Dot Festival, Woman You Stole release their third single ‘SHAKE!’
‘SHAKE!’ was recorded at 6db studios in Salford, England with Simon ‘Ding’ Archer (The Fall, Pixies, PJ Harvey and Black Francis bassist) and builds on previous releases ‘Frustration’ and ‘Excuse My French’ to deliver a more stubborn rock-and-roll offering whilst maintaining a little of the DNA from the band’s influences including B52s, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Au Pairs and Blondie.
“We love everything about this DIY banger – fresh sounds with an unmistakable whiff of 90s indie-punk.” – LoudWomen.org
‘SHAKE!’ cut its teeth through the gigging circuit in 2019 and opens with an immediate T-Rex / Bowie guitar riff coupled with chants of ‘shake’ before the beat sashays in and the vocal begins; “You walk like a man, you talk like a woman and fight like a child… you could be me, you could be family and my history.”
‘SHAKE!’ goes lyrically head into challenging the preconceived ideas of gender stereotyping in modern society, particularly whereby we are often assigned characteristics determined and limited by our gender. The chorus alchemises this with an infectious riff lifting the song into a no-nonsense call to action for the listener to ‘shake it’ [to the ground] and to “take it down”. ‘SHAKE!’ maintains this momentum throughout, stepping up at each chorus before propelling itself into a deliriously wild Sonic Youth outro.
‘SHAKE!’ will be released via iTunes and streaming platforms on Friday 29 November with pre-sales available from Monday 28 October. CD format will be available in selected stores with a special bonus track ‘Sweet Cherry’ recorded from the same 6db session. They celebrated the launch ‘SHAKE!’ Woman You Stole as they played the Castle Hotel in Manchester on Friday 29 November. Tickets are available from AltTickets here.
