Polygon are bringing about a revolution in live sound. Harnessing the power of immersive sound technology, Polygon delivers a 3D, 360° sound stage, and a live experience like you’ve never heard before. Imagine a dancefloor that puts you right at the centre. An orchestra is playing all around you. You feel like you are in amongst the strings section, the flutes circling around your head and the beat of the drums pulsing at your feet. By fundamentally changing how music is experienced, Polygon Live has established a new standard for live event production – providing a natural and vivid experience that heightens emotion and places the listener inside the music rather than in front. You can experience Polygon Live at Thailand’s Wonderfruit Festival in December this year, the world’s first fully immersive 3D 360° sound stage. This signifies the beginning of a new era for live music. Why are we still listening to live music in stereo? Championed by DJs worldwide, Polygon Live is fast becoming one of the most discussed music arenas. Until now, music has always been played from a static source. Polygon Live changes the status quo by deploying an L-ISA audio processor that gives performers the ability to perfectly spatialize sounds within but also to physically move sounds around a space. The designers of the processor, L’Acoustics, are the company responsible for revolutionary line-array technology that redefined live music in the 1990’s. With L-ISA they have added the quality of movement to the traditional building blocks of music; timbre, pitch, rhythm and tempo. Dr. Christian Heil, CEO and founder of L’Acoustics explains: “Sound is by definition a spatialized medium. It’s how the human species naturally experiences sound: detailed, multidimensional, and localized. Today at concerts we should instead be asking, ‘Why is the sound not spatialized?’ Until recently, the answer to this question was because we didn’t have a user-friendly and cost-effective ecosystem to reproduce natural, 3D sound.” Continuing, Dr. Christian Heil says: “Polygon and Wonderfruit have showcased L-ISA technology since 2017 and can be considered as pioneers in the use of spatialized sound in the electronic and dance music world. EDM is a thrilling application for L-ISA because the genre does not tie the physical localization of sound to a known and recognizable instrument such as a violin or a drum kit. This opens up tremendous freedom to have sound travel, shapeshift and ricochet, independently of where the sound is made. L-ISA becomes a kind of instrument, enveloping fans in entirely new sensations and perceptions. It’s exciting and Polygon is at the forefront of a sonic and creative revolution that is only just beginning to unfold.” The technology is so game changing to the architecture of the music that Polygon flies artists to their London studio to pre-spatialize their music ahead of performances. After DJs have animated their sets by prescribing directions to sounds, they can deliver an immersive live experience that sounds exactly as it should: detailed, multidimensional and localised. Polygon CEO Nico Elliott adds: “After many years researching 3D sound we are excited to officially launch Polygon Live. We believe that Polygon will redefine how live music is experienced and set a new benchmark for the industry.” Polygon will appear for the third time at Wonderfruit this year, hosting an array of cutting edge technology and innovation. Scent dispersion, pyrotechnics and tubed LED lighting will coalesce around a bamboo stage designed by the globally renowned lighting designers and architects, Visual Systems. The Polygon lineup includes leading electronic musicians and DJ’s including; Be Svendsen, Luis Rosenberg, Viken Arman Alban Endlos, Martha Van Straaten and Chilean electronic band Matanza. This unique configuration of 3D sound is the beginning of a transformation for live music. Polygon Live is the first to breathe life into a saturated market, and provide festival goers with a compelling new way to enjoy concerts, and experience music like never before.
