Courage My Love Drop New Single and Powerful Music Video ‘Slow Motion’

Canadian alternative pop-rockers Courage My Love have released their new single “Slow Motion,” which is now available on all DSPs.Consisting of twin sisters Mercedes Arn-Horn (guitar / synth / vocals),
Phoenix Arn-Horn (drums / programming / vocals) and Brandon Lockwood (bass / guitar), the trio’s new track was produced by Phoenix in the band’s home studio.Stream the track here: https://cml.lnk.to/SlowMotion.”Slow Motion” is the third in a string of self-produced songs/videos that will eventually encompass a visual EP to be released in early 2020.Mercedes developed the concept and co-directed the accompanying music video, which just premiered.Mercedes says:“Originally SLOW MOTION was supposed to be a love song.At first glance, the lyrics are about noticing someone from across the room, being caught in the moment and falling in love at first sight. But I wanted to explore a darker theme that cuts a little deeper with the music video.I was inspired by a term used in addiction circles called “the pink cloud”, which refers to a phenomenon in one’s recovery process after a recovering addict detoxes for the first time and experiences this surreal, short-lived form of happiness.Addiction is a heavy theme in SLOW MOTION’s video.I think in this day and age we’re addicted to a lot of things… social media being a very obvious example currently. Many who try to analyze a social media addiction will simply chalk it up to vanity or narcissism, but I think of it a little differently. We’re addicted to the endorphins we experience while scrolling through memories, highlights, likes, comments, etc.We crave that artificial connection we feel online that we struggle to experience in the real world. We yearn for acceptance. validation, popularity, community.Even more than that we love to escape from our own sad reality and create a version of ourselves that appears to the world how we wish to be seen.We create a version of reality where we don’t have to live with our insecurities, at least for a little while.Maybe this superficial reality is our own pink cloud after a detox from real real… or maybe it’s the drug we use to escape from it.I think a lot of people can relate to feeling overwhelmed, depressed, lonely, scared of how quickly our lives seem to pass us by.A lot of us would prefer to be blissfully ignorant to the atrocities of the world we live in, even if it means surrendering true individuality, privacy, freedom of choice, etc. Many companies and organizations recognize this, and prey on our weaknesses so they can profit from them in exchange for a welcome distraction from our lives. Our lives are basically one long terrifying episode of Black Mirror. The Infinitum Pharmaceuticals storyline represents my perception of these companies, under the guise of a helping hand, providing a lifeboat to those who are drowning… at a cost. They provide a radical miracle pill that advertises it can solve all your problems, make you happier, slow down your rare, fleeting moments of joy, all the while insidiously catering to your own delusions and desires to keep you hooked.I wanted to juxtapose lyrics that seem very happy on a surface level with visuals that are very sad at their core.SLOW MOTION is meant to be a Courage My Love social commentary that reveals the true nature of how it feels to be alive in 2019, under the boot of major corporations, targeted ads, and algorithms.”+++++Courage My Love is a Juno Award-nominated band whose videos have garnered over 8 million views, has graced the cover of Canadian Musician and was named one of “100 Bands You Need To Know” by Alternative Press.
