Currently on their first headline US tour with Logan Ledger and off the back of a successful European tour, Ida Mae today release the video for their beautifully effortless track, ‘Love Is Still A Long Road’, taken from their phenomenal debut album ‘Chasing Lights’ – out now on Thirty Tigers. Listen to the album HERE.
Directed by Tom Cowles, the video for ‘Love Is Still A Long Road’ is a mesmerising show-reel of snapshots of Chris and Steph as they travel across the US, blowing away crowds with their gorgeous sound. The video perfectly captures the love they have for performing live, as well as for each other. On the track and video, Ida Mae said: ““Love Is Still A Long Road” is in some ways about us. We’ve existed on the road together for so long with an almost Bonnie & Clyde lifestyle….travelling alone in the car in cities and countries we never expected to see. It is kind of about being bound to one another.”
The duo last week released their sombre new track, ‘Baby I Need a Driver’, which is available exclusively on Amazon Music as part of their ‘Produced By’ series. The stunning track is produced by T-Bone Burnett.
‘Chasing Lights’ was helped to become the masterpiece it is with the guidance of legendary producer Ethan Johns (Ray LaMontagne, Laura Marling, Kings of Leon). The duo’s natural chemistry proved to be an ideal fit for Ethan Johns’ minimalist approach to production. “Ethan records live and very quickly,” explains Turpin. “He loves the naïve discovery of early takes. It could be terrifying at times, but we always trusted his judgment.”
Blending elements of vintage Delta blues and gritty rock and roll with boldly modern arrangements and fearless punk swagger, ‘Chasing Lights’ captures Ida Mae in its purest form. From the pulsating ‘Higher Than Light’ to the Beat poet-inspired ‘My Girl Is A Heartbreak’, ‘Chasing Lights’ is an impressive eclectic debut. Singing together, the couple have an unusual ‘which-is-which’ dynamic.
