Sean McGowan Reveals ‘Heartbreaker’ Single

The latest sample of his keenly awaited ‘Curate Calm, Create Chaos’ EP sees Sean wearing his heart on his sleeve and lost deep in tender thought.

Written about the complex and often paradoxical array of emotions we experience at the beginning of any new relationship, ‘Heartbreaker’ explores those conflicting feelings of wild excitement and guarded anxiety that often precede letting-go to fall in love. https://youtu.be/YhsKS-9M25U
Solely backed by a score of graceful acoustic arpeggios and hushed backing vocals, ‘Heartbreaker’ chooses to set the spotlight centre-stage on Sean’s winsome and candid lyrical offerings.  As Sean says:

“In more recent years I’ve found myself being more honest and open which has proven to be much better usually, but, has bitten me on the arse a bunch too…. I wanted to write a song people could relate to about lust and romance that was focussed more on the psychological affects as opposed to the physical. Not just the ‘Heartbreak’ but the drop in self confidence, the worry of wasted time and how you recover… ‘Heartbreaker’ is about how two people can keep their cards close to their chest and feel like they don’t want to give too much away or make themselves vulnerable. This period can be fun and exciting but it can also be confusing.”

Expect not-a-dry-eye in the house when Sean airs ‘Heartbreaker’ along with other tracks from the upcoming EP at a string of headline UK dates this Autumn / Winter. With a number of the shows already sold out including Bristol, Winchester and Southampton, and a number of others down to their last few; tickets are selling like hot cakes (see dates with last remaining tickets noted below).

New single ‘Heartbreaker’ follows the Radio X-supported first single ‘Silk’, both of which will appear on Sean’s upcoming new EP: ‘Curate Calm, Create Chaos’, out 1st November 2019 (via Xtra Mile Recordings).
A punk, poet, and pacifist all at once, Sean’s latest collection arrives very much like an extension of the artist himself. Stepping momentarily away from the frenetic indie-punk that coursed through the veins of his acclaimed debut album ‘Son of The Smith’, Sean’s new release instead delivers an altogether gentler and more introspective listen.
After the Southampton singer-songwriter found his life suddenly turned upside down by a series of monumental changes beyond his control, he reached into his soul and found these five new songs: ‘I’m OK’, ‘Heart Breaker’, ‘Silk’, ‘Money’ and ‘Queen of The West’. Now compiled as his ‘Curate Calm, Create Chaos’ EP, together the tracks spin a deeply personal narrative that charts Sean’s journey as he navigated his way through these stormy waters. His first new material to emerge since his debut album last year, ‘Curate Calm, Create Chaos’ is subdued and stripped-back, raw and reflective, and together illuminate Sean’s songwriting talents going from strength to strength.

Breaking out of the Southampton scene, Sean was signed by the Xtra Mile Recordings label early on in his career and has had no trouble winning over audiences with his unique way with words, admirable ethics and impassioned vocals. Fitting right in with the Xtra Mile family, Sean has gone on to tour with the likes of Skinny Lister, Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. and Will Varley, as well as fellow working-class heroes Billy Bragg and The Levellers. Along the way, Sean has played crowd-winning sets to the folk of major festivals the likes of Glastonbury, 2000 Trees, Camden Rocks, Truck and beyond, whilst also playing a huge main stage at the legendary Camden Roundhouse as one of the main supports at Frank Turner’s Lost Evenings II.

Channeling smart wordplay through a clash of tunes both melancholic and riotous, Sean released his acclaimed debut album ‘Son of the Smith’ in 2018 and now follows it in 2019 with the: ‘Curate Calm, Create Chaos’ EP.
