Hello, my friends, hope you are well, may I present two tasty treats from my local independent record store to your ears. I know they have been worn out of late with new releases coming atcha from all corners of the musical world but spare a few moments to give these a whirl.
First up is Michigan singer Damien Done, known for his stint in As Friends Rust our man here has issued his own nifty little number titled ‘Don’t Hearse Me Baby’, after I stopped giggling, I found a tale of love/lust told in a slightly off the beaten track way, interesting and funny too. With darkly amusing lyrics like ‘how you destroyed a thousand other guys before me’, and ‘when I woke up, I was sewn up’ I find this an ideal song for a Pixies album. It has the same eccentricity and weirdness which is attractive and entertaining.
Listen closely people, or else it’s your funeral.
Next I venture into reggaeland and find there is a ‘Hole In My Life’ courtesy of Sweet Mystic, a dub rock outfit from Crete. With UB40 vibes (come on Birmingham!) we engage in a little swinging and swaying to the gentle beat, classic rhythms and with philosophical words like ‘ cause I have chosen this road, now I must find the light’ it is a sweet little song to relax to. I am partial of a bit of Reggae/Ska having been brought up with it, so if Reggae is your thing, then give this a spin!
