Maroon 5 releases a brand new single entitled “Memories” (222/Interscope Records).
“Memories” debutedlast night and, upon going live, the song claimed a spot in the Top 5 of iTunes Overall Top Songs Chart and Top 5 of the Top Pop Songs Chart in addition to trending worldwide. It marks the first new music from the three-time GRAMMY® Award-winning multi-platinum Los Angeles band since the release of their global anthem “Girls Like You” in 2017.
About “Memories,” singer and songwriter Adam Levine commented, “In an ever increasingly crazy world, let’s just carve out one moment to think of those we love and share the memories of the ones we’ve lost.”
Produced by Adam Levine and The Monsters & Strangerz and Executive Produced by Jacob “J Kash” Hindlin, “Memories” marks a moment of creative and personal progression for the musicians. The minimalist ballad starkly pairs a lilting clean guitar with chantable and evocative lyrics from Levine. In addition to representing another sonic side, it tackles uncharted subject matter for the group— namely loss—but from a different angle.
At its emotionally charged climax, the tune quietly builds towards a beautiful, barroom-ready elegy as the frontman sings, “Here’s to the ones that we got, cheers to the wish you were here, but you’re not, cuz the drinks bring back all the memories of everything we’ve been through…and the memories bring back you.”
