The Unlikely Heroes of TRNSMT Festival 2019

TRNSMT 2019 was one of the best yet. With 150,000 fans enjoying over 70 performances, the event sold-out and brought huge names including Stormzy, Catfish and the Bottlemen, George Ezra, Gerry Cinnamon and Lewis Capaldi on the Main Stage, as well as huge sets on the King Tut’s Stage Powered by Utilita Energy, to the heart of Glasgow.

Ahead of Early Bird tickets going on-sale at 9AM this Friday, we reflect on one of the best weekends of the summer so far with the unlikely heroes of the event including a dancing Granny, Chewbacca and a ‘slosh pit’.
GRANNY <3 CAPALDI

It may have happened on the closing day of the festival, but we need to start with the heroic Granny who got on shoulders to catch the best view of man of the moment Lewis Capaldi on Sunday night. One fan commented on Twitter: “Can’t stop watching this. This is what life is about. Our physical bodies age but our heart never does!” The singer-songwriter himself even retweeted saying how much he loved his new fan. View the video here + below.

THE PERFECT STORM(ZY)

Stormzy dominated the conversation on TRNSMT’s opening day as the closing act caused much deliberation as to whether or not he’d make his slot at the Scottish festival. Posting to his Instagram on Friday afternoon, Stormzy did make it to the Main Stage in plenty time and, dominated the headlines even further with his entrance. The rapper received a Police escort to TRNSMT, laughing his way through the journey. Stormzy delighted the Scottish audience with an incredible cover of Lewis Capaldi’s ‘Someone You Loved’, which was also played by the Scottish Beyoncé himself on Sunday evening. The rapper was later spotted in the backstage area with Example drinking champagne as Stormzy donned a Scotland hat – all of which was shared with fans throughout the evening via Stormzy’s Instagram.

THE GEORGE EZRA SLOSH PIT

The good vibes peaked on Sunday night when George Ezra took to the Main Stage as the sun set on the 2019 event. Playing an incredible set of singalong hits, fans danced and hugged their pals during the likes of ‘Budapest’ and ‘Shotgun’. A top moment was captured by fans during ‘Listen To The Man’ from George Ezra’s 2014 record ‘Wanted on Voyage’. Check out the epic fan slosh pit here and below:

GIE’D IT CAPALDI

It is no surprise that one of the biggest moments of the weekend came when Lewis Capaldi walked on stage in a Chewbacca mask in response to his on-going, tongue-in-cheek Noel Gallagher fued. Soundtracked to the epic ‘Bits N Pieces’ tune, Lewis Capaldi opened his set with ‘Grace’ and played to one of the biggest crowds of the weekend. The signed Chewbacca mask is now being auctioned for mental health charity Tiny Changes, having already reached over £6k. You can bid here and watch Lewis Capaldi’s epic entrance here

JOEY ESSEX + MCNUGGETS
TRNSMT Festival is known for its incredible food choices as fans were spoiled for choice throughout the site at PLATFORM ON TOUR with loads of vegan, vegetarian and meat options. One of the most surprising rumours of the weekend across the other side of the side, came from the McDonald’s McNuggets activity. The Only Way Is Essex star Joey Essex was on hand to dish out free chicken nuggets, thrilling fans with his banter.

UTILITA POWER TREE’S DANCING SECURITY GUARD

The DJs were just as hot as the bands on this year’s TRNSMT line-up including packed bills at the Smirnoff Bar and Utilita Power Tree. Huge crowds danced the day and night away with top sets from DJs including Cal Griffin and Rebecca Vasmant; the latter capturing a brilliant dancing security guard who thrilled the crowd with his moves. You know you’re in Glasgow when even the security guards provide the entertainment. Watch video here

CHLOBOCOP’S QUEEN TUT’S TO MAIN STAGE JUMP

Scottish rapper Chlobocop played the newly added Queen Tut’s Stage on the opening day of TRNSMT 2019 fresh from a show in London the night before. When Fredo missed his slot due to travel issues, both Chlobocop and Cal Griffin stepped onto the Main Stage to deliver the tunes for the TRNSMT audience.

KEEPING IT COOL

Police Scotland Dogs shared an incredible picture of their working dogs on site at TRNSMT who were kept cool with jackets and paddling pools as the festival temperatures reached highs of 22 degrees. Surely these were everyone’s favourite workers on site?!

BARROWLANDS HALL OF FAME TAKES TO THE MAIN STAGE

Richard Ashcroft swaggered onto the Main Stage on Saturday proudly wearing a Barrowlands Hall of Fame t-shirt. Taking to social media, the Britpop hero said: “What an honour! It was lovely to receive my hall of fame award and T-shirt from the #barrowlands. To all the musicians who shared a stage with me and most important the magnificent audiences over the years salute! Great venue mega city top country.”
