Interview: Josh Christina

Baltimore-based rock and roll artist, Josh Christina, is an old soul proudly raised by Jim and Patti Christina with a strong belief in God, country and work ethic. They’ve turned out a polite, well mannered, humble and even a bit shy son (when not on stage) that loves old cars, his family, his friends, his fans and definitely music!

He inherited his musical chops from his biological father (a drummer), his mother (Baltimore-area singer Patti Christina), and his grandmother, who was a big band singer in the ’40’s and ’50’s.

Josh spent the past 16 years honing his sound – a combination of the country, classic rock, gospel and blues he was raised on. And while most artists find the pressures of today’s music scene to look and sound a certain way daunting, Christina continues to find success in both Baltimore, Nashville, Memphis and beyond by doing what he does best – being himself. We caught up with Josh as talked about this latest single and more!

So how has the release of Let’s Get Woke gone down so far?

It’s been going great! Have been hearing lots of great reviews and comments on the song and with the release of the Elton John biopic, “Rocketman”, people really seem to be digging the piano playing.

Can you tell us something about the video no one else knows?

Probably that it was crazy hard to have to play along with myself. I usually always play what I feel but when doing a video, unless it’s live, you have to play along with the master recording of your track. I had to remember what I played for the solo and all.

Will you be releasing more music this year?

Possibly. Focusing on the current single right now but we’ll see what the year brings!

Would you ever consider touring the UK one day?

Back in 2016, I did do a short tour of the UK. I performed on Ireland’s “Late, Late Show”, doing my current single at the time and did a bunch of radio stops and solo shows in London and Ireland. I’d love to go back someday for sure.

What’s the alternative music scene like in Baltimore at the moment?

It’s a little bit of everything. A lot of variety bands and club bands. I’ve been lucky to be able to carve out a niche for myself with the piano-driven rock and roll stuff. Between doing my original music and covering artist from Jerry Lee Lewis to Elton John, it allows me to stand out and really hold

  1. I’m the drummer for the Josh Christina Band. I’ve been playing for over 40 years and I have seen and played with many piano/keyboard players. Josh is the most talented naturally that I’ve ever had the chance to perform with. He’s a great guy and real pleasure to be in his band. You really need to hear and see him play.
