Speaking about the video frontman Ryan Johnston says‘It was shot in good old Wakefield, the city we met in, the place we live, full of the people that put us on their backs and helped us make something out of nothing.’

‘Let Go’ is the first track from Skinny Living’s new EP, which will be released in the summer. It comes hot on the heels of the quartet’s recent sold-out UK tour and showcases the group’s captivating blend of pop, soul and acoustic anthems, songs that manage to sound both epic and personal at the same time. The four-piece, based in Wakefield, came together by chance when frontman Ryan Johnston, Will Booth (guitar), Danny Hepworth (guitar) and Rhys Anderton (drums) met at an open mic night and soon began collaborating.

Johnston says they write music that naturally taps into the everyday emotion of life, songs about ‘family, people, life, struggle’. ‘Let Go’ is about ’embracing change for the benefit of yourself and everyone else involved, no matter how hard it is and no matter how much it hurts. How many times do we hold on to people, jobs and patterns in life for fear of change? It’s something we all go through.’

‘There’s a lot of music that, when I felt like nobody understood who I was, or didn’t have anybody to lean on, the songs gave me what I needed and if that can happen even for one person from our music, that’s amazing,’ says the singer.

Skinny Living have amassed a diehard fanbase who have a deep connection with their music, songs that come from a real place. On a recent tour, a girl came up to him and said the tracks were helping her through tough times. To the frontman, it’s the highest compliment you can get. Being genuine in 2019 counts for something.

‘Let Go’ is the band’s first new material since they released a mesmerizing live version of their track I Still Love You late last year. They have spent the intervening period honing their sound and writing some of their biggest songs yet, working with producer Cam Blackwood. ‘Let Go’ was recorded at Voltaire Studios and The Pool.
