Many of the issues facing youngsters in society today, such as anxiety, depression and gender dysphoria, are very much at the forefront of British metal foursome, Threat System’s debut E.P. They very admirably, are there to tell you, that whatever crisis you might be facing, you are not in this alone. It’s obvious that this is a band who genuinely care but can also pulverize you with some sick riffage simultaneously and that my friends is something I can get behind.
They look to inspire right from the kick off with the “King Of The World” empathizing with that feeling of despair and loneliness so much that you can almost hear vocalist Beck’s heart breaking as they sing “King of The World without a throne.” “All Over” is very introspective lyrically, carried along by a jarring Tool-esque riff while “Flammable” is a far more bass heavy, abrasive affair with a chorus to die for that once again showcases Beck’s incredible Corey Taylor meets Dolores O’Riordan vocal talent. Shout out has to go to Nasa on drums here too, with some really intricate work in between keeping the groove flowing. “Fading Out” is a straight up head nodder which culminates in some serious dual guitar work and we end this wonderful little E.P with “Abyss.” An upbeat number with a riff Killswitch Engage wish they’d written whilst Beck and their cathartic rhetoric gets to sound off one last time.
Such is their plight here, it really doesn’t matter what the music sounds like, if it inspires confidence and can make a change for better, than anything will do. It’s just a bonus that Threat System happen to be killer. With a groove and a melody that is missing in a lot of rock these days and with a powerhouse vocalist in their ranks, this is definitely a band to watch out for. Catch them now before they outgrow the small venues or you’ll be sorry you missed them.
