It’s official, Download Festival just got five hundred times heavier! Taking to social media this week, Nottingham-by-way-of-Gibraltar metal titans The Five Hundred confirmed an upcoming performance on The Boardie Takeover Stage at this year’s event.
Though the majority of musical offerings play out across Donington Park from 14th to 16th June, The Boardie Takeover stage seizes control of The Doghouse from 6pm on Thursday 13th June, giving festival-goers an early opportunity to enjoy an evening of live music entertainment. Last year’s takeover saw performances from Cabin Boy Jumped Ship, Black Orchid Empire, Invisions and more, with this year’s line-up promising even more heavy metal mayhem!
Having released their debut album ‘Bleed Red’ in Summer 2018, The Five Hundred broke into the new year with remarkable force, taking on a UK tour with Shvpes before following up with a performance at HRH Metal III in February. As the summer approaches, the quintet – applauded by Kerrang! Radio’s Alex Baker for their “cinematic, crushing brilliance” – are soon to unleash their hell-raising live energy upon Camden Rocks Festival on 1st June. From there, it’s on to the green pastures of Download Festival, before taking on a number of UK dates with Danish labelmates Siamese!
Commenting on this latest announcement, The Five Hundred vocalist John Eley exclaims:
“Download Festival? HOLY S*#T! This is a dream come true for us, and we can’t wait to tear Donington Park to shreds! It’s gonna kick off like Jackie Chan in a crowded Hong Kong bar out there, so bring a helmet and several pairs of spare pants…Let’s get BRUTAL!”
Ahead of their appearance on The Boardie Takeover Stage at this year’s event, you can stream and purchase The Five Hundred’s debut album ‘Bleed Red’ via Spotify and iTunes respectively.
