Album Review: Seaway – Fresh Produce

Fresh Is Best!

Don’t be late to market ducklings to pick up some “Fresh Produce” courtesy of our Canadian( hello Lindsay Schoolcraft and Billy Talent) cousins Seaway, there is nothing dry about this lot, don’t take my word for it, take a gander yourselves.

Tripping the light fantastic since 2011, our heroes have a loyal and crazy, fun loving fanbase- see video for Blur and the concert footage especially towards the end, highly amusing and entertaining!

There is a sense of the nuptials here as we have something old, something new, something borrowed, and something loaded with blues and impeccably balanced by you my friends.

“Meet me on an island far from here” sings our Ryan and I say “hang on I’m a’ comin’ boys” as we sail into Smash Mouth territory, and dive head first into the deep blue erm…sea.

It’s still “ a blur in the morning” whichever way you slice it, so just go with the flow and drift away on the good ship Seaway.

There are some blasts from the past – Lula On The Beach, Alberta, and Shy Guys – and some right tasty covers, my favourite being The Cars and Just What I Needed.

Brimming with summery, breezy, light and airiness, this is Maltesers music, head to the beach my friends, lay down that mat and soak up all the sun, fun and “don’t be shy” attitude and awareness that emanates from the speakers and into your personal airspace.

It is not an invasion, but a gentle persuasion of sorts, with a subtlety and an ingenuity to send you reeling see “Alberta”

“from the car to the hotel bed, in the dark, all the things you said”.

There are fantastic vocal harmonies throughout as we draw similarities to Simple Plan, Bouncing Souls and Lagwagon( Falling Apart, anyone?) as our friends here climb the stairway to pop punk heaven.

We are left with “If I Came Back To You” and how we “ponder sometimes on the nights we came so damn close”

Altogether now,

All I wanna do, is nothing with you, in your apartment, in your apartment……

Sigh…swoon…aaahhh
