SPQR Reveal Brand New ‘Josephine’ Video

SP Following a recent appearance at BBC 6music Fringe Festival, Liverpool-based alternative art rock trio SPQR are pleased to reveal an atmospheric video for their hip-shaking new single ‘Josephine’, which has just been added to Airplane Mode Vol. 1—a new music compilation album from DJ and broadcaster Andy Backhouse.

‘Josephine’ leapt onto Spotify UK’s The Punk List playlist on release, and was personally selected to appear on the album by guest curators Everything Everything alongside tracks from Lala Lala, Yves Jarvis, Broncho, Lealani and more. The 19-track album showcases all the best in new and “oddball pop” from around the world, and is released via Bandcamp and Spotify on April 26th 2019.

The new single is the latest to be taken from SPQR’s forthcoming second EP,Low Sun Long Shadows, which will be released on 26th April 2019 via Modern Sky UK.

Front man Peter Harrison comments on the song: “I actually wrote Josephine about 4 years ago, which is why it’s seemingly come out of nowhere. I don’t really write ‘em like this anymore, which is a shame, but I still love it—which is a miracle—because the other songs I wrote during that batch I don’t think much of, but this one just stuck. Maybe it’s because it’s SUCH a fun live track, but I could never throw it out.”

Alongside the news, the band are also delighted to announce a short run of UK headline tour dates (see below for listings). The new dates come in addition to their already scheduled slots at Liverpool Sound City Festival and Blue Dot Festival.

SPQR’s previous singles ‘Our Mother’s Sons’, ‘Blood Pump’ and ‘Slowly’ were added to Spotify’s Alt. Rocked., New Music Friday, All New Indie, New Indie & Alt, and The Punk List playlists, receiving further support from BBC Radio One, The Line of Best Fit, CLASH, The Quietus, Discovered Magazine, BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio and more.

Produced by Margo Broom at Hermitage Works Studios (Fat White Family, Goat Girl, Dead Pretties & more) the EP is the latest material from the band since stand-alone single ‘Blood Pump’ released in 2018, following their 2017 EP, The House That Doubt Built.

Low Sun Long Shadows is released 26th April via Modern Sky UK
