Having spent almost a decade in the wilderness, Singer / Songwriter Alf Hale had a spectacular return to the music scene with his EP ‘Misanthrope’ which chronicled his remarkable journey from the depths of alcoholism to his eventual redemption.
This was swiftly followed up by his debut album ‘City on a Hill’ which saw Alf, accompanied by fiddle player Jade Morris, channel the dark underbelly of Southern American Country, Folk and Blues infused with his unmistakable English charm.
Hoping to build on the success of his first two releases comes “The Rainy Season” (out 10th May), which sees Alf yet again take on a new musical direction. Unlike City On a Hill, a more stripped back affair, The Rainy Season saw Alf take to the studio with a full band in tow delivering a fuller, darker sound. Yeah, really excited about the release of the new album, was great to record with a full band again.
Can you tell us something about the album no one else knows?
I wasn’t too sure about the mix of the songs and the sound on this album as all of the tracks were recorded between two different studios almost a year apart.
What’s your favourite song on the album?
My favourite song on the album is Naive, I love the feel of the bass and drums and also the looped backing vocals.
What was your favourite moment making the album?
Had some great moments recording this album, was great to get Paul Quinn to the studio for the keys, he’s a truly amazing player.
If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?
I’d love to record a track with The Damned, that would be interesting!! Always loved their energy.
If you could play at any venue in the world where would it be and why?
Would love to play the Americana Festival in Norway, it’s been on my radar for a few years and I’d really love to go!!
Will you be touring at all this year?
