Live Review: Wilko Johnson at Southampton Engine Rooms

Following Wilko Johnson cancer recovery, the original Dr Feelgood guitarist has enjoyed a rousing return to the live scene recently, including a number 1 album with Roger Daltrey and playing a sold out show at The Royal Albert Hall to mark his 70th birthday. This was no exception as Wilko certainly didn’t fail to disappoint at Southampton’s Engine Rooms. Glen Tilbrook joined Wilko as support as he warmed up the packed out crowd.

Wilko started with That’s the Way I Love You and If You Want Me, You’ve Got Me and Take It Easy. Fans were really beginning to get into the set as Wilko really engaged with his fans. He then played one of many Dr. Feelgood songs which was Going Back Home and this themed extended throughout the set with songs such as Back in the Night and She Does It Right.

Other songs in the set included Dr. Dupree and Marijuana which were both instant classic with the fans. Wilko ended on a Chuck Berry cover which was Bye Bye Johnny, a perfect way to end a fantastic night.
