Heavy Rapids announce debut EP ‘Cash In Hand’

Glasgow’s HEAVY RAPIDS have announced the release of their debut EP. Titled ‘Cash In Hand’, the collection of tracks will be released in full on 07 June. It features the previously released ‘Going Down’ and current single ‘Infected Nightmares (Frankenstein),’ which is Tune Of The Week on the Indie Show on BBC Radio 1 this very week.

‘Infected Nightmares (Frankenstein)’ is a punk-fueled anthem for modern day relationships and the complications that come along with them. Vocalist & guitarist Dillon Squire-Strong says that the single “is all about confusing relationships which have been affected by social experiments and can f*ck up your head. It’s like an angsty love song.”

Squire-Strong believes that it’s the band’s duty “to voice the problems of the modern world” and that’s a theme reflected throughout the four songs that comprise the band’s ‘Cash In Hand’ EP. It’s a relatable journey to say the least.

Drawing influence and inspiration from homegrown talent such as Idles, Fontaines DC and Shame, Heavy Rapids are proud to be a part of a musical scene that actually means something. Drummer Johnny explains “if you want music that is a true reflection of what’s happening in our country right now then you need to get listening to the breaking artists in your hometown and further afield. There’s no smoke and mirrors with punk and rock music. It’s a tool for the people who feel misrepresented and forgotten about to bring about change.”

Heavy Rapids will be repping Glasgow on the road at a bunch of festivals in the coming months including Stag & Dagger, Live At Leeds & Y Not. They’ve recently supported the likes of Starcrawler, Strange Bones & Bloody Knees and more live dates will follow. The Heavy Rapids live experience is one to behold. As Johnny says “I feel like most of my energy on stage comes from the joy of playing music with other people. Obviously I love the music we play but it’s mainly about the way we all interact with one another that makes it special.”
