State your Claim!
With Brexit looming ( not again…) and the UK looking down the toilet, I am one of the lucky few hunkering down with tea and biscuits and the new offering from our British heroes, The Fallen State. Instead of obsessing with all things American, spare a thought for our home-grown talent, my friends and get your orders in for “A Deadset Endeavour”.
A fine, well- honed set of gnashers on this one, ready to take a chunk out of your unsuspecting rear end.
Making bold “Statements” we enter into familiar yet somehow uncharted territory with our Ben and his merry band, as he tells us that “For My Sorrow”
“I really like your hands around my throat” oohh I say, you don’t waste any time, do you? there is nothing sorrowful about these riffs, they are energetic and dynamic.
Now with tongues firmly in our cheeks( I can hear you giggling like naughty schoolchildren) we ponder our fascination with America, I understand the attraction ( Anti Flag, anyone?) but we need to curb our enthusiasm a touch, I think, before we dismiss our compatriots who work tirelessly to gain your support and loyalty. The grass may look greener on t’other side friends, but Cadburys will always beat Hersheys hands down. Love the video for “American Made”, a case of mistaken identity in which our friends waste no time in capitalising.
This is a conveyer belt of riff after mind bogglingly, stratospheric riff, no time for a builder’s tea break ducklings, just dive into this coronary inducing cyclone, like the one in “Paradox”, it has quite substantial, dizzying after effects.
“I’m torn again, I’m trapped again” an all too familiar sentiment, but dealt with more than adequately here.
In “Can’t Fight The Feeling” an anguished Ben shouts
“I’m at the end of my fucking rope” I hear you, loud and clear, and so will the entire world when this gets released.
Valentines Day is upon us ladies and gents with
“You’re tearing the skin right off my bones, your love is an open wound”
Who said romance was dead?
The lads dish out some “Attitude” with the anthem for the outcasts and the cast offs, with
“I’ve been tried and tested, a thousand times rejected”.
This is razzle dazzle, name in lights music, cut to the chase and pass the baton to our friends here, they are industrious, they are conscientious, they are trustworthy.
With “Lovers and Psychos”- I know which side I’m on, hehehe- maybe they are drawing on experience, but we attempt to live cheek by jowl harmoniously.
Lighters at the ready for the big finish my friends, as we are reduced to “Fragments” and we wonder
“What the fuck just happened?”
I am so glad I got to play a small part on their journey.
The future is bright, the future is an open wound with an attitude!
