Greetings pop pickers! Haven’t we all had just about enough of Brexit and bad news? Well, the good folks at Alcopop! Records sure have, so we’ve decided to do something about all this doom and gloom.
What’s that, you ask? Well, when life give you lemons, what else is there to do other than throw a massive party reimagining Top of The Pops—that much-loved bastion of British pop music—into the most fun-packed, DIY-star-studded soirée that this green and pleasant land has ever seen.
With that in mind, Alcopop! Records are delighted to announce TOP OF THE ALCOPOPS, a very special Top of The Pops-themed evening set to take place at The Dome and Boston Music Rooms in London on 17th May 2019.
Any tickets purchased within this first weekend come with a 100% completely free lucky dip Alcopop! Records release on your choice of either CD or vinyl—no catch, just free rekkids for the fans.
Commenting on the show, Alcopop! Records overlord Jack Clothier said: “Gigs are great. We love gigs. But it’s nice to do something a little different, and we’re so excited for this party. Imagine all the good bits of Top Of The Pops, but with more booze and a crowd full of good people having a nice time all covered in glitter. That’s kinda what we’re aiming for.
“We’ll have compères, film-crews, a glossy magazine with free stickers and SO many good bands. We might even ask Art Brut to mime one song while they play tiny drum kits—y’know, proper TOTP style controversy. Hopefully see you there. It’ll be fun.”
Featuring a host of names from the Alcopop! Roster, extended friends, and label alumni, the first names revealed for the event today are: cult art-rock heroes ART BRUT, Belgian experimental noise-rock quartet RAKETKANON, Brighton punk witches DREAM NAILS, self-proclaimed “Croydon noisy fellas” FRAUDS, and rising Brighton-based garage rockers GAFFA TAPE SANDY, with loads more names TBA over the coming weeks.
The event will be compèred by Northern-Irish stand up comedian and TV host Michael Legge with good times and tasty beers once more supplied by the kind folks over at Signature Brew.
Tickets are on sale now priced £16 advance, with further details and line-up additions soon to be revealed.
