Seminal Swedish skate-punk band Millencolin will release their ninth studio album ‘SOS’ this Friday via Epitaph Records. ‘SOS’ is their first album in four years, and it follows up 2015’s ‘True Brew’. In anticipation, they’ve revealed another track from the record in the form of ‘Sour Days’. Its Descendents-esque catchiness helps fuel the album’s many memorable moments, but it took a lot of work to get there. Vocalist/bassist Nikola Sarcevic originally came up with 30 rough ideas for the album, which he then sent to guitarist Mathias Färm, whose job it was to transform these random sketches into completed Millencolin songs. “The process took me half a year. It’s like making a painting in a way,” Färm recalls. Millencolin have already released the album’s first single and title track ‘SOS’, as well as the more recently revealed ‘Nothing’.
For over 25 years, the Swedish punk act, completed by guitarist Erik Ohlsson and drummer Fredrik Larzon, have perfected their ever-evolving brand of melodic punk, but ‘SOS’ sees them stretching into new sonic and lyrical territory that further cements the group as being able to outlive trends and gimmicks. Their secret? Solid songwriting, inventive arrangements and lifelong friendships that are palpable in each note on the album. ‘SOS’ is the kind of album that will satiate the band’s longtime fans while maintaining a broad appeal that’s certain to bring new converts into the fold.
‘SOS’ was recorded at the band’s own Soundlab Studios, in in Örebro, Sweden and mixed by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios. It was produced by Sarcevic and Färm with all artwork and photography created by Ohlsson.
Millencolin have also announced their first 2019 festival appearances, including Slam Dunk Festival in the UK (as part of NOFX’ Punk In Drublic line-up), Groezrock Festival in April, Austrian Nova Rock festival in June, and the German Mission Ready festival in July.
