Live Review: Palaye Royale at Southampton’s O2 Guildhall

Canadian band Palaye Royale joined Black Peaks in supporting Enter Shikari at Southampton’s O2 Guildhall last week and they were truly a delight to watch throughout. There was plenty of controversy running up to the show with certain fans on the tour not appreciating the support yet Southampton just opened their arms to Palaye Royale and so they should.

The now Las Vegas based band certainly brought the glitz and glam to the show with a massive lit up sign spelling out ‘Palaye Royale’ to let fans they are there in some fashion. Remington Leith, Sebastian Danzig and Emerson Barrett all performed brilliantly on the night alongside their instrumental backing. The trio started with Don’t Feel Quite Right and You’ll Be Fine as they showed plenty of energy throughout the show. Lead singer Remington performed brilliantly alongside his brother Sebastian and drummer Emerson certainly knew what he was doing and performed superbly.

The band played Wasted and Masochist which were both solid editions to their set and saw a real fan base singing and dancing a long to their songs – a rarity for support acts. My personal favourite from the seven song setlist was Mr Doctor Man as it showed so much energy throughout. They finished on How Do You Do? which was a perfect way to finish a superb set that warmed up the brilliant Enter Shikari. All of the band took time after the show to take pictures with fans and talk in depth with them about how they inspired them in one way or another.
