Quantum Pig release futuristic video single ‘Statement of Intent’

Ahead of the online and physical release of their debut album ‘Songs of Industry and Sunshine’ on 1st February 2019, the Carl Sagan, Queen and Husker Du-inspired duo Quantum Pig have recently unveiled the slick, futuristic video single ‘Statement Of Intent’.

Having released the artwork, track list and pre-order links for ‘Songs of Industry and Sunshine’, Mark Stevenson and Ian Faragher continue to build excitement around their debut album. As with the previously released ‘Citizen and State’, this latest serving of prog rock intricacy comes with a potent, thought-provoking message…

“Statement of Intent is a love letter to renewable energy,” says Quantum Pig’s principal lyricist Mark Stevenson.

“Lyrically it has it’s roots in the 19th century and the birth of solar power, including direct quotes from Augustin Mouchot, inventor of the first solar-powered engine, and from an 1876 edition of Popular Science magazine praising his work: ‘Future generations after the coal mines have been exhausted will have recourse to the sun for heat and energy. The sun will be the fuel of the future’.

That foresight from over a century ago really struck me, especially as it’s a dream that’s finally being realised, despite the vested interests of the dirty status quo.”

The second half of the duo, multi-instrumentalist Ian Faragher says, The video is a about the transition from old ways of thinking, symbolised by the hollowed out derelict we shot the principal footage in, and the promise of the new, represented by all those holographic screens and other CGI jiggery-pokery.

This track contains perhaps my favourite lyric on the album: ‘Our engine should be the whole of the sky’ – it just says it all and makes a great slogan too. It’s very Quantum Pig – big, optimistic and slightly left-field. We’re just the sort of band to release a single about solar power. Musically Statement of Intent has all the essential ingredients of a Quantum Pig track. It’s prog, both musically and lyrically, it’s rock, the guitars are turned up to 11, but it’s unashamedly hooky and singalong too.”

Both are full of praise for the video’s director Miles Skarin. Mark says, “He got the band and the song instantly – and totally delivered.” Ian adds, “Miles is a huge talent. We’ll certainly be working with him again.”
