A poem celebrating 30 years of The Bouncing Souls

Argyle

After the guest has gone,

Maybe we can share a hybrid moment

Just us;

It began with Argyle, never knowing the trajectory,

Never knowing the inventory

Of our needs, our wants, our desires

To be king of the highway

And add fuel to our fire to keep us on the road,

To fulfil a dream with the pitcher half empty

Or half full, depends on your perspective,

With the evidence inculpatory I’ll stay introspective,

When the comet skids across the sky

I’ll hope for better things

Maybe a life like Lamar,

Or maybe not,

I’ll lean on Sheena as she is all that I’ve got.

There is a complexity in your simplicity

Whether you see it or not

With no rules, we were born to lose,

As I lie awake and gaze

At the moon over Asbury

How it glistens;

I contemplate,

As it’s way too late

It’s all of this or nothing,

How wonderful to feel kinda something.

I’ll gather the ghosts and we’ll meet at the boardwalk,

To sing along forever,

If only it were up to me,

Or up to us,

But you lost control so

I had to run my mouth

And run you over with my

East coast! Fuck you!

No longer to be weighed down by your anchor

Like kids who look to their heroes

When they need an answer.

I’ll call you up and all you’ll hear

Is my maniacal laughter

I won’t step aside

It won’t subside

Is this a happy ever after?

We’re counting on the true believers

They never let us down,

There’s hopelessness in romance

When you’re out to paint the town.

It’s time to stand up and stand tall

Strike up the band

Strike up the manthem

That’s a command,

Don’t tell me how to spend my summer,

When in the winter,

In the cold, in the bleakness

I won’t show my weakness,

And when the darkness descends

And that song plays on the radio

Whatever it is with me and you

Let it steal your heart

And let the gold shine through.
