The Hazytones started in 2015 with a pure passion for loud, heavy, dirty music. Their first outing, simply named ‘The Hazytones’, was furious and full of catchy 70’s cuts. It spilled through the stoner circles on the internet and the band was able to accomplish 6 tours across North America and Europe.
Their buzz grew and caught the attention of californian label head Todd Severin. As a fair reminder that they shouldn’t be slept on, the boys happily re-released their self-titled debut on both Ripple Music and on the german Kozmik Artifactz!
Now more hungry than ever, they’re hitting you with a brand new psychedelic voyage into the depths of doom with « The Hazytones II : Monarchs of Oblivion ». Constructed with both older songs the band had been playing live for years and newer compositions, everything on Monarchs is arranged and thought out to be the perfect sequel to the first opus. Now darker, more aggressive and fully garage! Even the witch from the first album’s cover art makes a blazing comeback, taking revenge on those who tried to destroy her. The Hazytones II was recorded live at ReelRoad Studios with every musician playing together in the same room, which gives it that raw and human feel.
Now with a raging new lineup consisting of Mick Martel on vocals and guitar, Adam Gilbert on bass and Victor Tremblay on drums; the band is ready to takeover the world one concert at the time. The hazy season has started. We managed to catch up with the band in a recent interview:
So how has your latest album/EP gone so far with fans then?
So far it’s been great and we haven’t even released the album yet. It’s called The Hazytones II: Monarchs of Oblivion and it’s coming out October 5th. I’m saying it’s been great because we have been playing the new songs live a lot. It feels really good to be playing new songs after playing over 100 shows with material from the first album.
Tell us something about the release no one knows?
The title track Monarchs of Oblivion has two parts. What no one knows is that originally there we’re two separate songs and in the studio we just put them together and it sounded great. I wrote the lyrics afterwards and it’s the closest thing we’ve come to writing a ‘’concept’’ song and album.
If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?
That’s tough question. I would rather go with someone who’s in the stoner scene and that’s not obviously super well known. It’s would be easy to say a big name like Ozzy Osborne or Uncle Acid. I’d like to sit down with someone that I connect with write a song
How has your latest single been received?
The first song we released is called Hell and It’s been well received. I have a feeling people are waiting to hear the full album. I’m eager to see what the reviews we’ll have to say about it.
Can you tell us about the meaning behind the track?
Hell was the kind of song that just fell in place on its own. The theme behind Hell came to me live in the studio. It was obvious to me that I was going to keep the lyrics because it just works well I a song like that. The groove is catchy and it’s reminiscent of our first album.
What tours do you have coming up, and what can you tell us about them?
We’re going on an full Europe tour in ten countries. UK, Belgium, France, Spain, Switzerland, Poland, Austria, Hungary, Czech republic and Germany! In total 27 shows. It’s going to be on of our wildest ride yet! It’s the second time that we’re back in Europe and we’re really excited to bring them our new album.
What venue are you most looking forward to playing the most, and why?
With 10 countries honestly It’s hard to choose. We’re all really excited to go to Berlin, we’re playing this venue called zukunft am Ostkreuz and it looks wicked. We’ll see what we think turned out best after the tour, if we survive…
