Under The Blade
A carnifex by definition was a public executioner in Roman times, usually sent to brutally despatch the lower classes.
Here, Carnifex make no such distinctions; we all end up under the blade (Twisted Sister anyone?)
The singer, Scott, waves his implement of torture much like an orchestra conductor and we all jump into a pit of a very different kind.
The funny thing is I spent the last six months or so revelling in the beauty of Die Without Hope, not expecting this quite extraordinary little number to crawl into my ears and chew away at my brain. This is a great job, seriously.
First out of the blocks is “Bury Me In Blasphemy” and you realise that things are gonna get ugly.
Reminds me of C of F, quite symphonic, garnished with high drama, and a sprinkling of crushed bone and soul. If you have held onto your insanity, you are treated to “The Heretic Anthem” – yes, my lovelies, altogether now “if you’re 555 then I’m 666” and “Head like A Hole” which was stunningly crafted by Nine Inch Nails, and now stunningly covered by our friends here.
A little remix to, erm, mix things up and you can lay yourself gently down to sleep.
For now, that is.
