Cross genre punk outfit Millie Manders and the Shut Up released their eagerly anticipated new EP ‘Shutup’ on the 21st September 2018. ‘Shutup’ is one hell of a rollercoaster ride, even if there only are just four tracks! Each song is incredibly different but the overall the band feel like they have finally found their feet on this record.
The band revealed their new video for single ‘One That Got Away’ from the EP last week and you can check it out below!
We caught up with the band as they talked about the EP and more!
So how has the release of One That Got Away gone down so far?
The reaction has been incredible. So much positivity and sharing. We couldn’t be more grateful!
Can you tell something about the video no one else knows?
I intentionally put things in there scene/prop wise to indicate who the song was originally written about… sneaky sneaky! Haha!
So you have released your EP Shutup, how pumped are that it is finally released?
SO PUMPED! It feels like I’ve been waiting aeons to get this out into the world.
What is your favourite track from the EP?
It’s a toss up between Right To Life and One That Got Away, and thats mainly down to Oz Craggs’ incredible production… the 50’s vinyl crackle at the beginning of RTL, the way he’s worked the harmonies in OTGA, the overall sound of each instrument and the way he’s made my voice sound raw and live just makes my heart burst. We all got a bit emotional listening back for the first time…
If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?
That’s a mega hard question. There are so many bands I love and respect. I’d love to do a really hardcore but melodic song with some synth twists and mental horns, so I reckon Enter Shikari… everything about the way they write is intense and intelligent.
What’s it like being aired on the likes of Radio X?
John Kennedy is such a lovely human and he has incredible taste in music – his show is off the scale. He’s championed some of the biggest breakthroughs recently – most notably I think Idles (who I LOVE) so for him to play any of my music is just so humbling. It’s a dream come true to sit and listen to a show like that and have your track introduced and played!
What was the first gig you ever been to?
The first live bands I remember seeing were at Sundance Music Festival in Norwich with my Dad as a kid. I don’t remember who was playing I just remember how electric the atmosphere was, how excited and happy everyone seemed to be and “the funny smelling smoke” I asked my Dad about haha!
