EP Review: The Uncharted – Perspectives

Captain’s Log 28th September: We Sail At Half Light.

In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue. In 2018, Pathan ventured into uncharted territory and discovered “The Uncharted” – a land previously known to only a few, and therein found a seven-headed being that emerged from the ruins to engage with other such life forms and stake their claim where “X” had marked the spot. I dare you to lock horns with this creature.

I, however have managed to domesticate it (she says, hanging on for dear life), and it is quietly curled up in the corner of the room ready and waiting to pounce on any unsuspecting bugger.
“Deathdrive” opens the show, nice and smooth and then by crikey the brute just explodes out of the speakers.

“I’m dreaming of my funeral pyre” is the welcome mat, avoid it at your peril. Moving swiftly on we have “Catch 22” and “I can’t ignore the anguish inside of me” where Peter Lee and Arron Carter comprise the two-headed vocal monster that tears through the skin and reaches for your vitals. This is beauty and the beast heavy metal style, a sweet and sublime juxtaposition that tells it like it is. The melody in parts reminds me of Soulidium “The Light”, which is a great example of outstanding knob twiddling.
“Half Light “continues in a similar fashion, really a fantastic song, beautifully worked harmonies. With “Horizons” we have the plea to take me “away from the chaos within to find myself again”, if only that was a tangible proposition. We have these lads for company in the meantime.

“I wanted to be free of it all” is a line that will resonate with the majority, I reckon, taken from “Vision” which leads us to the end of this EP with “Revival”, it is spiritually uplifting, floating high and mightily and taking everything in its path, a most desirable ascension.

Our future is in their hands, get behind them, rally around them, stick your head above the parapet and proclaim their arrival.

I have, and I’m not scared to be shot at.
