Ireland’s Anna’s Anchor (aka Marty Ryan) is pleased to reveal the video for their new single ‘Johnny Cash Was A Punk’ which is out now via all good digital retailers, with the band also recently announcing a further string of November 2018 headline UK tour dates (see below for full listings).
‘I wrote this song while I was on tour in the States last October,’ says Ryan of the new single, ‘which was an absolute dream come true. That said, throughout the year of heavy touring I did come across some people that I really looked up to that just didn’t really practice what they preach and didn’t live up to the message they were sending out within their music.
‘I found that really hard to take, but the reality is that I’m from Limerick—a place that might not have the best reputation in the world, but at least the people here mean what they say and stay true to their word. I’m very grateful to have that in my life.’
The track is the latest to be taken from their new album Everybody’s Welcome, set for release on 14th September 2018 via Failure By Design Records, and available to preorder now: https://bit.ly/2KBBAMB
The video for the final single to be released from the album is an intentionally revealing insight into the recording process for the record, as Ryan explains: “It was such a fun and unusual experience. Aside from the drums, the whole album was tracked in one stint in a remote cottage in Castletownbere in West Cork that we booked through Airbnb.
“Me and my friend Mike Gavin of Windings who produced the album set up a makeshift studio and lived, slept, ate and recorded there. The cottage was looking out on Bere Island and it was an unbelieavably inspiring location. The video gives a snapshot of that amazing time.”
So far Ryan’s has proven to be a winning formula, with early releases gaining praise from the likes of The Journal.ie, Today FM, Washed Up Emo, Punktastic, DeadPress! and Soundscape Magazine, as well as securing support slots with the likes of Turnover, AJJ & Koji to name but a few.
‘We got the album mixed by John Goodmanson in Seattle,’ enthuses Ryan on the end-process of producing the new record. ‘He’s recorded bands like Death Cab for Cutie, Soundgarden, Pavement, Wu Tang Clan, Hanson—the list of sick bands is actually endless. That was such a cool experience. We’re by far the smallest act he’s worked with in recent years.’
