Bright blue skies welcome Wendy James’s TRANSVISION VAMP and they transport most of the males in attendance back to 1988 when the sultry lead exploded into our living rooms with her trashy peroxide Monroe/Blondie husk. ‘Tell That Girl To Shut Up’, ‘I Want Your Love’ and the throwaway Rock brilliance of ‘Baby I Don’t Care’ complete a short but smile-inducing set. FUZZBOX suffer from some early microphone malfunctions, however, both ‘Pink Sunshine’ and ‘International Rescue’ are still sugary bubblegum bursts of Indie Pop at it’s finest. Clare Grogan’s ALTERED IMAGES bash out a sun-drenched ‘I Could Be Happy’, ‘Don’t Talk To Me About Love’ and of course, ‘Happy Birthday’. Annabelle from BOW WOW WOW is a picturesque Punk. Her duo of ‘Wild In The Country’ and ‘I Want Candy’ come and go in a now you see me now you don’t split second while MIDGE URE’S set is beautifully balanced. ‘Standing Still’, ‘Loves Great Adventure’ and ‘Fade To Grey’ are laid out like entrees. ‘Dancing With Tears In My Eyes’ and ‘Vienna’ have the sold-out (and slowly burning crowd) firmly in the palm of his hand. ADAM ANT is THE star of the day. ‘Car Trouble’, ‘Young Parisians’ and ‘Xerox’ may be slightly lost on the nostalgia-hungry “play the hit singles please” majority. The biggest cheers were saved for ‘Kings Of The Wild Frontier’, ‘Apollo Nine’, ‘Vive Le Rock’ and the poptastic ‘Goody Two Shoes’. Smash Hits ‘Stand And Deliver’ and ‘Prince Charming’ give everyone what they really want as arms are crossed and planks are walked. Hoist the Jolly Roger and avast ye because the chart plundering pirate Prince of Punk (and his superlative band) are finally sailing the rich festival seas.
