EP Review: Fizzy Blood – Pink Magic

Leeds Alt-Rockers Fizzy Blood returns with their 3rd release the balloon popping ‘Pink Magic’ E.P. Opener and title track ‘Pink Magic’ has a strangely safe middle of the road Kasabian re-booted edge. The song stands with legs apart, chest puffed out and chin firmly raised it cuts an imposing, confident figure. Next up is the fuzzy, SodaStream sounding ‘CFO’ which tickles the throat without satisfying the musical thirst. A semi-atmospheric ‘Strangers’ is a commercial chart wanna be and although in places it’s both delicate and subtle the song sadly has no natural center. The musical chairs quandary of being caught between a plethora of styles and wanting to please everyone while remaining vital and edgy can send a band round in frustrating circles. That said final track ‘Illusion’ nonchalantly throws its head back and delivers a bona fide Oasis fused punch of 2018 Alt-Rock. The best of the four cuts is saved for last on an E.P that comes close to Gold but walks off with the Bronze.
