Anna’s Anchor Address Environmental Sustainability On New Single ‘Precautionary’

Ireland’s Anna’s Anchor (aka Marty Ryan) are pleased to reveal the video for their new single ‘Precautionary’ which is out now via all good digital retailers, with the band also recently announcing a string of September 2018 headline Ireland tour dates and an EU solo tour with special guests Backwards Charm for October 2018 (see below for dates).

The track is the latest to be taken from their new album Everybody’s Welcome, set for release on 14th September 2018 via Failure By Design Records.

With a background studying Environmental Science at University, alongside his musical career Ryan has spent the last few years working as an Environmental Consultant, something which has had a profound impact on the way he sees the world and how he approaches making music, particularly looking at themes of the kind of world we may (or may not) be leaving for our children.

‘One thing that always comes up is the definition of sustainability,” he says, “Which is basically the idea that one generation passes the world onto to the next in better shape than when they got it. I personally feel from an environmental, economic and social perspective, that hasn’t necessarily happened with any generation, particularly at the moment.

‘I’m the first person in my family to graduate from university, yet the reality is I’ll probably never own a house of my own; there are drastic changes in weather that are only becoming more frequent; and to top it all off, hate and racial tension is more prevalent than ever. It’s difficult to be positive about all of that, but the reality is that keeping hope and positivity is the only thing you actually can do, and that’s what the song’s about.

‘It’s a heavy lyrical concept but it’s married with the most upbeat music I’ve ever written. I love that conflicting message between the two moods of the song which is the overarching theme of the whole record, really.’

Another accomplished dose of emotive punk-tinged song writing, the track gives a glimpse of the heavier side of the forthcoming record, which musically plumbs new depths for the Irish outfit, as Ryan continues: “It’s quite a riff-heavy tune in comparison to most Anna’s Anchor material, but I was listening to Reuben’s first album a lot whilst I was writing and that rubbed off on me, especially on this track. It was a really fun one to record and I wanted the outro to literally sound like the world is ending, because I guess it pretty much is…so we stacked 8 guitar tracks on top of each other with a load of different distortion pedals and it was a whole pile of fun!”

With its old head still very much firmly planted on youthful shoulders, Everybody’s Welcome is yet another startling prescient and well-crafted record from the burgeoning Irishman, the latest in a line of releases that are finding the mark amongst an eagerly growing fan base who are falling for Ryan’s searingly honest and sensitive approach to song writing.

So far this has proven to be a winning formula, with early releases gaining praise from the likes of The Journal.ie, Today FM, Washed Up Emo, Punktastic, DeadPress! and Soundscape Magazine, as well as securing support slots with the likes of Turnover, AJJ & Koji to name but a few.
