Piercing the air with a Sly and the Family Stone-esque hook, a bone-melting bass line, and horns so hot you could cook bacon on them, Lyrics Born’s new single ‘Is It Worth It?’ and was premiered on HipHopDX! The song features veteran MC Del Tha Funkee Homosapien and Oakland, CA singer Forrest Day.
Lyrics Born tells HipHopDX exclusively: ‘I was going through a ruff patch, was super drunk off cheap saké one night and had this ‘fuck the industry’ moment because I felt tired of being excluded. I wrote the shit outta that song. The track had a Gorillaz-esque vibe to it, so I called up Del for the bridge and voila! A week later, I was just as drunk off Grey Goose, called up the homie Forrest Day who felt it right away. Two rappers, two empty bottles, and one great singer brought this nightmare to life.’
As the first Asian-American solo rapper to perform at Lollapalooza and Coachella and to release a greatest hits record, Lyrics Born has broken through countless barriers to cement his illustrious career. Now, on September 14, 2018, he will be the first Asian-American solo rapper to release a 10th album — a record of funk and soul woven into classic, boom-bap Hip Hop called Quite a Life via Mobile Home Recordings.
