US Thrash Metallers Black Fast have dropped a new single and music video from their album Spectre of Ruin, released 13 July via Entertainment One (eOne).
Premiered via Metal Injection, check out new single/video Phantom I Am below!
“This track has some really dark and unique progressions, an interesting overall arrangement and a ripper solo,” says guitarist and vocalist Aaron Akin. ‘It’s one of the songs that asks for the most repeat listens. Lyrically it sums up the overall theme and vibe of this record. Doused in the adipocere of extinction, the scorched husk peels, and the insect sings.’
Like its predecessor, Black Fast’s Spectre of Ruin was summoned into sharp focus at Mana Studios in St. Petersburg, Florida, with Erik Rutan, the Hate Eternal frontman and ex-Morbid Angel guitarist who has produced albums by genre titans like Cannibal Corpse, Goatwhore, and Six Feet Under. It’s all killer, no filler, demonstrating the destructive force of focused neo-thrash and progressive death-infused heavy metal at its finest.
‘One of the greatest parts of my job as a producer is working with bands and watching them learn and grow from their experience every album recording and touring cycle,’ says Rutan. ‘I have watched Black Fast mature and excel in their playing, songwriting and their music in every facet.
‘For Spectre of Ruin they came in super focused and prepared, like a well-oiled machine and together we captured amazing performances with integrity, bringing the soul of these songs to life. Black Fast has once again delivered an incredibly unique and advanced album that sheds all genre specific stereotypes, putting them in my estimation at the upper echelon of metal bands in 2018 and beyond!’
Black Fast follow the roadmap laid down by the great bands with Angel and Death in their names, swearing off the trappings of the mainstream with a steadfast dedication to their chosen craft. As vocalist/guitarist, Aaron Akin once summarised, ‘We’ve pushed our chips all-in since the beginning. We threw caution to the wind. We’re playing metal. We don’t really give a s*it about ‘making it.’’
This music is a vibrant soundtrack to society’s collapse and a celebration of defiant resolution. The Black Fast mission is ruthlessly simple: champion musical aggression, bark at the moon, raise a fist and head-bang like there’s no tomorrow.
The band are on the road this summer with various stops across the eastern half of the United States including dates with Ringworm and an appearance at the first Annual Transplant Fest The band will celebrate the release of their new LP with a hometown release show at Fubar in St. Louis on 17 August.
UK / European dates are soon to be announced.
