EP Review: Goodbye Blue Monday – Misery-Punk Ruined My Life

The only criticism of Goodbye Blue Monday’s latest E.P is that it’s too damn short, just three stupendously superior modern Punk bangers. Opener (and title track) ‘Misery Punk Ruined My Life’ takes American Pop-Punk and drags its suffocating corpse out of the semi-smiling, my parents don’t understand me, candy floss musical floppiness and smash it’s knee’s with a club hammer. The fast-paced cut has Rancid melody and an old school backbone while the vocals resonate with a desperately hoarse twenty a day tuneful rasp. Second track ‘Worst In The Mornings’ is trainspotting Rock ‘N’ Roll at it’s finest. Hangovers are always a topic that most can ruefully associate with and GBM nail it’s never again pain, suffering and futile reasoning perfectly. The final cut ‘Love Is A Noose For Two’ Skids across the high sea’s on the Dropkick Murphy’s deck while holding onto Less Than Jake’s swaying ankles. Goodbye Blue Monday has reignited the barely flickering modern Pop-Punk fire…By petrol bombing it. E.P of the year, possibly.
