Live Review: Culture Abuse – Rough Trade East

American Punks Culture Abuse and their enigmatic frontman delivered a short sharp set of new album tracks from ‘Bay Dream’. Rough Trade East’s performance space is buzzing as the band play from the stage while singer David Kelling gets up close and personal by remaining on the dance floor throughout the show. Kelling starts by dousing himself in beer and saying “welcome to Amoeba!” and is covered in pricing stickers and shouting “two CD’s for fifteen bucks”. Highlights include the bouncing ‘Calm E’ and single ‘Bee Kind To Bugs’. A rousing version of The Clash’s ‘Police On My Back’ gets the Culture Abuse treatment and then they’re off to sign some albums and mingle. Culture Abuse is the real deal and are a must-see for all Punk/Rock fans when they tour the UK later in the year.
