Modern Sky UK signs The Jjohns

From the label that brought you THE BLINDERS, CATHOLIC ACTION, THE SLOW READERS CLUB and many more – Modern Sky UK are delighted to unveil their latest signing. Announcing…

With an indisputable ear for the detecting the some of the brightest and best new sounds coming out of the UK right now, Modern Sky UK are delighted to introduce you to an effervescent new Liverpool four piece.

The Jjohns make the kind of irresistibly catchy and timelessly melodic guitar pop with an alluring hint of the chaotic, as only the way those with Merseyside blood coursing through their veins can.

Comprising the three Dunning brothers in Dom on lead vocals and guitar, Mik on backing vocals and guitar, and Bernie on bass, as well as, their friend Sam Burkett on drums, this sharp Scouse quartet very much have the heartbeat of the current Liverpool scene rippling through their sound.

Coming from County Road, in the city’s borough of Walton, the band may have come from humble beginnings but they won’t be forgetting their roots any time soon.

Outlining their ambitions for the band, frontman Dom Dunning says The Jjohns want to be:

‘Harmonic, homegrown, but most importantly – a band who write inspiring melodies singing about, what we know, where we live, and who we love.’

Initially using music as a release from the humdrum of the day-to-day life of the Liverpool suburb, it didn’t take long for the four piece to realise the potential and potency of the music they were making and they dared to dream bigger.

Taking up support slots with the likes of Circa Waves, Trampolene, Paris Youth Foundation and Jordan Allen, the band soon earned themselves something of a fierce reputation for the fantastic and the unpredictable on the live circuit, making the kind of noise that neither journalists (or labels for that matter) can ignore for long. With Get Into This hailing that ‘The Jjohns always play a brilliant set’ and The Pentatonic remarking that ‘The Dunnings are one drunken onstage barney away from being iconic’, it’s perhaps no surprise then that band have already been picking up early comparisons to greats the likes of The La’s, The Beatles and Oasis across the blogosphere.

And following their head-turning festival debut at Liverpool Sound City this year, the band have landed a deal with the Modern Sky UK label.

With the wind of their recent signing behind their sails, the band are now primed and poised for a bright summer of festival appearances (including a set at this Y-Not Festival 2018), plus a headline show to look forward to at Manchester’s premier indie establishment Jimmy’s this September. Full dates below.

Signing with Modern Sky UK label for a clutch of singles and the promise of their debut EP, expected for release at end of this summer, prepare to welcome The Jjohns to your record collection very soon…
