Album Review: Theia – The Ghost Light

Burton On Trent Three piece THEIA releases their latest album the hook-laden and Classic Rock catchy ‘The Ghost Light’. Opener ‘What You Want’ has an infectious boom boom riff which is chopped into a tasty chorus that stirs up a plethora of other Rock band comparisons, but not in a negative way. The opposite, in fact, this is a jam-packed Rock buffet of scrumptious sounds that screams “go on gorge yourself.” Next up is the AC/DC tinged intro on ‘Mask Of The Day’ before the song delves into a more melodic genre while retaining its foot stomping energy. ‘Dirty Livin’ has a roadhouse swagger while ‘The Revelator’ tips a British cowboy hat towards Chicago’s electric Blues. The ballad checklist is ticked with the fondue heavy ‘Over The City’ before both ‘Bring It Down’ and title track ‘The Ghost Light’ highlight the bands chameleon-esque talent as they seamlessly switch Rock ‘N’ Roll styles mid song, it’s a neat trick. ‘No Crisis’ is a decent enough filler while ‘Children Of Change’ gallops out of the Seventies paddock and heads straight for Nineties MTV rotation. Final cut ‘Throw Me A Bone’ resonates with Sunset Strip lyrics and a Britrock backbone and it perfectly encapsulates THEIA and their premium Rock sound. ‘The Ghost Light’ is the most satisfying (classic) Rock album I’ve heard in a long, long time.
