Album Review: The Agony Scene – Tormentor

After a ten year recoding embargo The Agony Scene return with the brutalistic ‘Tormentor’. The aurul battery begins with ‘Hand Of The Divine’ it’s a bone rattling attack of imperious style that criss crosses the Speed and Thrash gears. The clutch burning pace continues on the sacrificial sounding ‘Like The Weeds In The Fields’ which could thaw the hardest of celtic frost’s. ‘The Ascent And Decline’ opening is so fast it could result in the drummer’s arms combusting in some sort speed of light Spinal Tap spontaneous combustion. Mercifully the pace drops but the organ removing vibrations continues in a blur of Mustaine music and Dani Filth Vocals. Both ‘The Submissive’ and the nail gun attack of ‘The Apostate’ keep the skull-crunching momentum flowing. The assault continues with the tortured larynx vocals on ‘Mouthpiece’ while title track ‘Tormentor’ speeds into the genre with brakes burning. The closing duo of ‘Serpents Tongue’ and ‘Mechanical Breath’ finish off this unrelenting album. Dark fast punches of body bruising Thrash Metal, you’ve been warned. Welcome back chaps.
