JOYYA release ‘Horizon’

JOYYA bring the shimmering romanticism of classic tinseltown pop to our sprawling Thames-side cosmopolis on their three minute wonder Horizon. Inspired by their love-hate relationship with London since the duo moved here from Newcastle four years ago, it’s a love letter that expresses both a deep affection for their adoptive hometown, and utters its emotional grievances with quotidian life in an environment that can often leave us trodden underfoot. Chad Male’s production assistance perfectly captures the bittersweet rose-tinted melancholia that JOYYA expertly communicate, capturing the climactic highs and sedentary lows the pair have experienced throughout their time in the city. ‘Horizon’ is the sound of a beguiling new pop presence, and JOYYA effortlessly convey their relatability and honest interiority into their concise and watertight songwriting.

JOYYA are an English electronic pop duo consisting of Ben Dancer and David Pullen. Now based in London, they originally hail from the small village of Wylam in Northumberland. Inspired by their move to the city, Dancer and Pullen started making music together almost three years ago, and have since been meticulously woodshedding, ever refining their sound behind locked doors. JOYYA released their debut song ‘Seven’ on 30th June 2017. It was selected twice as Track Of The Day on BBC Introducing (BBC Newcastle) and covered online by Crack In The Road, DIY Magazine and leading business title Record Of The Day. Follow-up song Red Tune features John Waugh (The 1975) on saxophone and was released on 28th July that year. The song received BBC Introducing coverage and was selected as a ‘Fresh Fave’ by the Fresh On The Net (Tom Robinson, BBC 6Music) panel. With an eclectic mix of intelligent, soulful pop releases in the pipeline, JOYYA have already supported the likes of Fickle Friends, Wild Front, The Howl & The Hum and XY&O with plans to take their energetic live show further afield this year. Forthcoming single ‘Horizon’ looks set to further the band’s growing reputation, having already secured radio play from BBC 6Music and coverage across the BBC Introducing network.
