EP Review: Lifelong – Revive the Masses

A trio of former Confide band members have recorded the truly brutal E.P ‘Revive The Masses’. This deeply personal release kicks off with the bible pounding ‘Yours Alone’. The “No higher, than you are” lyrics bounce off the Hardcore backdrop and smash into the altar of the problems past. The title track ‘Revive The Masses’ deals with God entering the life of each individual member and how his/her strength has guided them away from the dark side, I think. The song has a slightly poppier edge but still has the musical ability to remove teeth. ‘Found A Way’ follows the E.P’s bruising path to enlightenment and whether you believe in a higher power or any one of the three thousand religions currently being practised around the world, it doesn’t matter the song still stands on its own as banging track. ‘Morning’ slams itself towards the church doors with a faith so blind that it may require a dog and a white stick. The final cut on this enjoyable E.P ‘Today’ thrashes along with well worn Pop-Punk sensibilities. Lifelong have nailed their colours firmly to the cross and while the lyrics may seem a little crass to a non-believer it takes nothing away from the obvious talent that lies within this release. Is Christian Hardcore now ready to challenge Satan’s rule over traditional Metal? Or are both sides of the religious coin just spouting a message designed to spiritually uplift, capture and then contain the feel-good masses in a guilt-laden prison of eternal worship, only you can decide? The music’s great though.
