Album Review: Roger Daltrey – As Long As I Have You

The legendary frontman of The Who is back with a brand new solo album the spirit-rousing ‘As Long As I Have You’. Opener and title track ‘As Long As I Have You’ reverberates with Rhythm ‘n’ Blues with a solid Gospel chorus spine. The semi-acoustic ‘How Far’ longs for love while ‘Where’s A Man To Go’ is pure Soul ‘N’ Roll. The slow build American preacher hallelujah-esque vocal style harks back to before Daltrey’s time in The Who when the broad Blues and Soul umbrella were all inviting. ‘Get On Out The Rain’ highlights the much loved smokey well-matured note holding timeless rasp. A slower ‘I’ve Got Your Love’ is followed by Nick Cave’s beautiful ‘Into Your Arms’ which is proudly held aloft. Roger Daltrey has produced an album of sublime quality and class. The voice is still there and it shines through the very soul of these timeless songs and recordings. This is a worthy addition to any Daltrey/Who collection.
