Today rising Scottish pop punks Woes reveal a new video for current single HLB2. The video sees the Edinburgh quartet make their acting debut as talent show judges.
‘HLB2 captures the things that we feel represent the band perfectly – it’s fun, laid back and hopefully makes you laugh!” says frontman DJ. “In the video, we search long and hard to find the best new talent… and it turns out to be us. Although there’s one star of the show that definitely deserved it more!’
A homage to the Drake megahit Hotline Bling, HLB2 showcases new depth to WOES’ sound. It follows previous singles Losing Time, Real World and High On You, which garnered support from the likes of BBC Radio 1 Rock Show, Rock Sound, Kerrang! Magazine and Radio, Alternative Press and Upset. All tracks feature on their SELF HELP EP, out now on UNFD (KKKK – Kerrang!, 7/10 – Rock Sound).
‘Any song that you write is a cathartic human process of something that͛’s happened to you or an expression of hurt or love, and for me any song that I write is self-help”, says DJ. With prolific producer Seb Barlow (Neck Deep, WSTR) at their disposal, they did what they do best: worked hard. “We wanted to write songs that sounded unique. We made a conscious decision to write distinctive sounding songs, we would only work on a piece of music if it made you feel something. And it’s our best work yet! As we were writing these songs our band was growing and growing, and we anticipated that we were writing songs that we were going to be playing in HUGE venues. We’ve never really had to write music with the expatiation of having to play it to thousands of people before. So that changed the dynamic of how we structured songs quite significantly.’
Woes have made quite the stir in recent months, touring with the likes of Neck Deep, Seaway and Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes.
Fresh from making their UK headline tour debut, WOES are showing no sign of slowing down with Slam Dunk, Galaxy Camp, Download and 2000 Trees festivals in the pipeline, alongside a Scottish regional headline tour in June.
Proudly wearing a mantra of Good Vibes Save Lives, WOES endeavour to push the boundaries of pop punk. This is the only the beginning.
