EP Review: Pushing Daisies – Take Me Back To The Light

Bristol Emo Rock outfit return with their independent E.P the emotionally charged ‘Take Me Back To The Light’. First track ‘Fears’ slips into the mind’s dimly lit places of refuge. The laconic shoulder shrugging style fits the song perfectly and the light sprinkling of Fuzz gives it just enough energy to keep moving forward. ‘Bleed’ motors along with a hunched back, hood up, hard luck spine with the chorus acting as a chink of light peeking through the songs closed depression curtains. Third cut ‘Picture Frame’ has a more rounded commercial Foo’s feel and is slightly weaker for its one size fits all mainstream conformity. The Emo genre is a delicate balancing act of enjoyable sounds and sublime pain and ‘Picture Frame’ falls somewhere between the genre cracks. Both ‘Crickets’ and ‘Night Masquerade’ hit the Emo spot with the latter sporting some vocals dredged from the very bowels of anxious frustration. Closing track ‘Luxury’ oozes with twentysomething angst and wraps up this enjoyable E.P.
