Glasgow’s Dead By Monday release their debut E.P the aptly titled ‘Almost Punk’. Opening cut ‘The First’ grabs the attention with a New Model/Almighty sound that resonates from the feet up while the vocals are a cocktail of pissed tramp screaming at the station’s ticket machine, guttural Death Metal and a blood-curdling cascade with the faintest touch of tunefulness. Next up is the pounding riff of ‘Dead Souls’ which speeds along the Warrior Soul blvd with bold and blind conviction. ‘Our Doomsday’ kicks out with dog barking, bitter frustration before final cut ‘Choke’ goes for a complete change of Style and pace. The Punk/Rock ballad is a tough trick pull off and Dead By Monday just about manage to hold off the commercial faux emotion naffness that saddles and then drowns so many others credibility. The song shows some real musical diversity and whether it belongs on this E.P or not it proves DBM isn’t a one trick Punk pony. Promising stuff.
