Black Honey, the UK’s most loved indie band, are back with their triumphant new single Bad Friends. It comes with the long-awaited news that their debut album is finished, and on it’s way for release this year.
It’s been a little while since Black Honey first introduced themselves but from the moment they arrived they’ve commanded the attention of many with their fascinating air of confidence and creativity that instantly set them apart from all their peers. Since then, they’ve gone from strength to strength as they’ve developed a wholly unique and classic sound and a reputation for releasing magnificently individual singles – including ‘Madonna’, ‘Hello, Today’, ‘All My Pride’ and most recent ‘Dig’.
All in preparation for this moment – the release of the first single to come from their hugely in demand debut record. ‘Bad Friends’ sets the tone – perfectly demonstrating just how far Black Honey have come. Drenched with Garbage-esque swagger, it’s a dark, moody pop record that see’s frontwoman Izzy B Phillips at her most commanding.
About writing Bad Friends – ‘Bad Friends is a still in time- when you feel just as lost in a moment as you are lost in an internal conflict between your ever-changing feelings for the wrong people. It’s about ultimately craving something that makes you alive. Sonically we wanted to create our own Frankenstein’s monster of pop music that felt equally wrong as it is right’
The video – which you can watch now – is a series of low-fi bedroom monologues featuring Izzy and various others. On making it, Izzy goes on to say – “We wanted to explore how widespread feelings of loneliness can be with this video. The women in the video are all self-directed, there was no brief and everything was their own artistic interpretation of the song. I chose women I found online I find interesting and beautiful in their own artistic way. I wanted to celebrate the insides of women minds – explore their relationships with their own reflection.
