Coasts put on quite a night at Southampton’s Engine Rooms last Wednesday as Only The Poets and Only Shadows both joined them.
Only The Poets came on to some atmospheric music to create the tension of the soon to be packed out room. The band played Emotional first which set the scene for the rest of the set as they provided an indie rock vibe with shades of 1975. Only The Poets also played the likes of Ceasefire and their new track Dead Young which was an epic addition to the set.
There was plenty of energy from these lads and they soon got the crowd dancing and jumping up and down. There was a real feel-good atmosphere in their set and they certainly knew how to engage with fans throughout. I’d suggest any indie rock fan to check this band out!
Next up was Only Shadows who certainly knew what they were doing from the start. The band started with a new track of theirs We Are Machines and right from the start they got the crowd going. These lads also had an indie rock vibe to them except this time Only Shadows sounded more like The Killers but of course they had their own style.
Only Shadows then asked fans to dance with their track Too Late which was very upbeat. Despite the set being fairly short, these lads packed a lot in and asked the crowd to get more mental which of course they did. Only Shadows could easily headline the venue in time to come as they really had some catchy songs and are worth checking out.
Last up was Coasts and we managed to catch up with the lads beforehand as they talked about their tour, latest music and more! Check it out below!
The venue played a song from The Hunna before Coasts came, a band that they supported earlier this year at Southampton’s Guildhall and it certainly got the crowd singing along. Coasts came on to The Lion King theme song as the packed out crowd waited in anticipation. The band played one of their most famous songs first which was Tonight and it was certainly one of the highlights of the evening as they played it perfectly.
Having recently toured America, earlier this month, you could tell that these lads were super pumped for this as they continued with the likes of Heart Starts Beating and Your Soul. This followed by Let Me Love You and Paradise as the crowd started to really get involved on the night. Chris Caines really provided some great vocals with Liam Willford and James Gamage both killed it on bass and guitar. Been Street also provided some great drumming skills as the band continued to play Come On Over and Wolves over the course of the set.
Coasts ended the set on You as they came back on for an encore. They played three more songs that included Modern Love, Take Me Back Home and finished the night with Oceans. Overall it was a great night with some of the best indie-rock bands the country has to offer.
