Scottish Punk Pop hopefuls WOES release their brand new E.P ‘Self Help’. First cut is the pregnant pause, slow it down, speed it up, I’m alright now, single (link below) ‘High On You’. Next up is the angry-sounding ‘Real World’ which misfires with genre overload and please any bands writing new material avoid the “woo, woah, woo” mid-song/chorus filler, it’s done, it really is.
‘Losing Time’ has an American Hi-Fi/Pie soundtrack edge while ‘Over It’ rattles out before the handbrake is once more applied mid-song and the tempo drops then revs up, like a learner driver groping for the bite point. The final track is also the bands latest single ‘HLB 2’. The piano opening gives way to light drums and softly sung vocals before pop gunning with first love emotion and frustration. There is an ever-growing and desperately obvious crowd of Pop/Emo/Punk watered down bands and WOES have the ability, songs and look to stand apart from the herd. They just need to take a deep breath, trust their instincts and a step to the left.
