Future War Bride announce debut Majahua album

Danish psychedelic quartet Future War Bride will release their debut album Majahua on June 8th via Gloves Off Records and have streamed new single Thin Air today, which sees the future of space meeting the past, head-on.

Thin Air by Future War Bride

The original concept for Majahua, that can be pre-ordered from iTunes, came to singer Mikkel Boström whilst living in a shack on a Pacific beach, inspired by the forces of nature that shook his reality into submission from a 7.5 magnitude earthquake. Nature again made its force known to Mikkel in unexpected ways during the making of the album, after he suffered from an instance of memory loss, a traumatic but, in its own way, strangely psychedelic experience that coloured the resulting album.

‘In a weird way, it turned out to be an opportunity to look upon things in a new perspective,’ he says. ‘Everything was, in a way, reset. The order of things didn’t come from a logical place, but from emotions that were put into words and music.’

Made up of Boström on guitars/vocals, Christian Ki on guitars/vocals, Morten Puper on keys and Jakob Gravlund on bass, the Copenhagen four-piece started to write songs in a swirling, retrofuturistic dream-pop vibe taking inspiration from yesterday’s 60s psych explosion. The band then added their own swirling cocktail of heavy rhythms, grooving fuzz-bass, acid-gobbling guitar and colossal synth wonderfulness to form an album that takes you on a truly warm psychedelic trip from start to finish.

Following the release of their debut single Gloves Off in 2017, their new single, Thin Air, is a time-traveling jam, warping between 60s melodic tangle and futuristic sounds. It was, in fact, the first music the group ever recorded, and is, Mikkel says, ‘a classic break up story about the distance between two people getting bigger. Underneath that it is the story of people acting as if they had altitude sickness, getting delusional and paranoid.’
